These days, there are various different types of diets, and one of the most popular ones is the ketogenic diet. Keto Diet

The keto diet is a low carb, high-fat diet that involves reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. It offers various health benefits, such as weight loss, fights diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. This reduction in carbohydrates puts the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis in which your body is incredibly effective at burning fat for energy.

Most diets usually involve cutting on cookies, cakes, fast food, and other sweet pleasures. However, there are many keto-approved dessert alternatives that you can consume while following the keto diet.

Keto Cookies

You are diabetic, or just following the keto diet, but you still feel like eating cookies? No worries. There are numerous keto cookie recipes that will offer you maximum satisfaction and minimum guilt. With substituting just a few ingredients, you can make cookies that you can enjoy without worrying about counting carbs. If you don’t feel like spending much time cooking, or if you just can’t find some of the ingredients needed for keto diet foods, you can always opt for low carb mixes for making keto cookies. For instance, you can find keto cupcake mixes, protein cookie mixes, cake mixes, and many others, that come with different flavours (vanilla, chocolate, fruit flavours, and others).

What are keto cookies made of? These cookies mixes, as well as all the other keto cookie recipes, contain healthy ingredients and have no added sugar. Instead of sugar, there are many natural or artificial keto-approved sweeteners that can substitute sugar, such as erythritol, xylitol, monk fruit, and stevia.

To remove excess sugar from your diet, you can also use keto-approved toppings of different flavours (caramel, chocolate…) or flavoured syrup. When it comes to wheat alternatives, most keto cookies contain almond flour, lupin flour, coconut flours, sunflower flour, and more. Other ingredients that are allowed in the keto diet, and thus used in these cookies, are eggs, milk, butter, salt, sesame, chocolate chunks, and nuts.

Aside from these simple recipes and mixes, you can also have protein cookies or muffins, that aside from the already mentioned healthy ingredients, also contain protein powder. All these recipes, besides being low-carb, are also gluten-free which makes them adequate also for people with gluten sensitivity.

Keto Pizza

Yes, pizza can also be keto-friendly. Again, you can choose whether you want to make it on your own, or go for an already made pizza base mix to which you will need to add eggs, water and olives (this is optional). Keto-safe pizzas are made of keto-friendly low carb pizza crusts made with fathead dough, that’s limp and flavourless. The keto pizza crust usually contains eggs, melted butter, almond flour, salt, baking powder, cheese (mozzarella is traditional, but cheddar would be great too), cream cheese and herbs.

Aside from cheese and herbs, there are also some other ingredients that you can use to top your pizza that you may not have thought of, such as avocado, asparagus, olives, mushrooms, arugula, broccoli rabe, baby spinach, and more. When it comes to sauces, instead of using sugar-rich pizza sauces, it’s recommended to puree a can of organic whole tomatoes.

Keto Bread

When you are on a low carb diet, bread is pretty much forbidden. Luckily, there are so many diverse recipes of how to make low carb bread. You can buy already made keto bread, buy a bread mix and just add eggs and water to it, or just completely make it and bake it on your own. When it comes to the different types of keto bread, you can choose simple protein bread, protein banana bread, bread with different seeds such as sesame, linseeds, poppy seeds, sunflowers, pepita, chia seeds, and many others.

If you want to make your own keto bread, you can put the same seeds, protein powder (plus banana if desired), and the basic ingredients for making a keto bread. These ingredients involve flour like coconut flours, sesame seed flour or almond flour. Then, eggs and butter for texture, baking powder, sea salt, and of course, water. You can also opt for the no-eggs options, and instead of eggs include yeast that will make the bread soft and fluffy.
