Buying new pieces of clothing that fit you right and you like can be really tricky – even more so if you’re buying them for your kids. Your little ones will outgrow so many of their clothes in a month or so, while there are many others that will stay neglected on the bottom of the drawer. This brings me to my point – buying clothing for child can cost you a fortune if you don’t do it the smart way. I know there are plenty of amazing pieces in the stores calling your name, but the truth is, your kids won’t even need most of them so there is no point in breaking your bank. Here are a few tips on how to be a smarter shopper.
Shopping for babies 0-2 years
It is very hard to resist those tiny, adorable pieces of clothing, but the truth is, your kid won’t use them for too long. With this in mind, there is no point in spending a lot of money on something that cannot be used after a month or two. Generally, babies double their birth weight in five months, so many of your new clothes may not get to be worn for the second time. Stick with pieces that are comfortable and affordable. Having one or two special outfits is enough in case you need to take your baby to some special event, like a wedding or birthday party. It is a good idea to buy clothes that are one size bigger than what your baby wears. You can also save up to 60% to 75% if you shop for jackets and coats offseason.
Shopping for toddlers 2-5 years
This is the period when kids are most playful. Also, it is the stage of life when they want to create their own outfits and dress the way they like. With this in mind, choose pieces of clothing for child that can be easily mixed and matched to avoid your kiddo having bad outfit days as much as possible. Also, spending money on expensive pieces is not a good idea because the risk of the clothes getting permanently stained is at its highest. At this age, your kids will need a pair of high-quality shoes – in case you want to buy strap sneakers, get a half size bigger to extend the period of time he/she can wear them. This is also the period when your kid needs a lot of underwear and socks.
Shopping for kids 6-10 years
This is the period when kids will spend most of their time in school, so you should focus on buying back-to-school essentials. Shop wisely and buy a size up of the pieces so your child can wear them in the second part of the year as well. Or, don’t buy everything at once. Instead, you can split your budget to make another shopping spree during the holiday sales. Quality pieces of clothing for child, such as jeans, outwear, and snickers is a must for this age. Don’t spend a lot of money on cool brands or trending pieces, as fashion comes and goes.
