When it comes to choosing the right decorations, a lot of people concentrate on what they want to see on their white walls or side tables and not on what the overall ambiance asks for to be complete. That’s a huge mistake that is often guilty for creating a colour mess out of a perfectly chosen furniture and colour pattern in a room. Just like with clothes and accessories, decorative elements give a room its identity and determine its style, so choosing them wisely is more than important – it’s crucial. In this post, I’m going to share with you how you can create a very modern and extra stylish ambiance in your rooms by a clever use of black photo frames.
Whether they’re small and made for decorating side tables or shelves around your TV, photo frames are always a good decorating choice. And the best thing is that you don’t have to put a photo taken with a camera; you can print a picture on good paper and frame it – even better. And the latest trend is just amazing: framed quotes! Point is, you can choose anything you think will complement your interior ambiance either on the walls, or on shelves.
Why black?
A lot of people think of black colour as a morbid choice. But let’s try to change this perspective. There are a lot of interior design schemes that have sort of a ‘playful’ colour pattern, including a lot of specific colours like red, pink, green, blue and others. All of these can all be combined to create the perfect harmony in a room, which ultimately limits the possibility to add anything that will pop-out of that combination. For instance, in a room with white, pink and grey elements, you definitely can’t add indigo-blue decorations; they would look like you’ve thrown them in that otherwise perfect environment and you’re waiting someone to pick them up and throw them out for you. It’s just eye-soaring. But, if you put something of a classic colour like black, the effect would be a lot different because black complements every other colour in the existing colour palette.
So, what can you do with black photo frames?
The best thing that will suit every possible interior design scheme is the combination of black photo frames and black and white photos. This combo is a decoration for itself and it can only emphasize the beauty of your walls or the overall design of the room. After all, black and white are the basic and most neutral colours in the colour palette and every other colour is just added to them. With that in mind:
- Break the monotony in your bedroom with a few black frames on the side tables – Whichever colour your bedroom night stands may be (but probably white, black or brown), besides the night lamp, you can put a black photo frame with a black and white photo in it. The white colour will create focus and define the overall blackness.

-
A black and white gallery wall – I’d recommend you don’t push it too much with the black and white photos; choose a scenery that won’t be too complex, like geometry figures or faces for example. Also, quotes with black letters on white surface in a black frame would do great in almost any room design.
