Is there something more boring than empty, white walls? I mean yes, sometimes it is good to have clean white walls and achieve the effect of a longer and wider room, but that illusion is simply not worth it. Turning your home into a monochromatic kingdom is also not worth it. Not only that, but it is tasteless as well. It shows you have no vision, no taste and certainly no knowledge in interior design.
If your excuse is “I’m afraid I’ll make the wrong colour combination”, know that you do not need to have a bachelor’s degree in design; you just need to open a few design magazines or browse few websites online and steal an idea or two. For example, the simplest way to add colour is by dressing your walls. Turn blank and dull walls into a wonderful floor-to-ceiling focal point you can build a beautiful interior around with colourful artwork. A stunning art display can say a million words about your style. Here are few more ideas on how you can add more colour to your home.
The bar cart
A bar cart can be a corner full of colour. Stack it up with various colourful liquor bottles with colourful labels and this will instantly elevate the dull look of your room. Here’s another tip: add a few bright glasses to complement the bottles. Also, fill in a few bright bud vases with herbs and place them on the bar cart; now you have tons of colour spreading from just one corner.
Blankets
If your furniture is in a neutral colour like white, beige or a very light grey, get some blankets and pillows in bright colours, like purple, red or green, or a combination of all. A colourful blanket placed at the end of your sofa will break the monotony of the colourless furniture and will dictate the other accompanying tones, like the flowers on the coffee table maybe. The same goes for decorative pillows. You can combine the pillows and the blanket to obtain a stronger colour effect.
Accessorize in neon
Trays are not just elements that help you while serving dinner, clean up the table or have a snack in bed; they can serve as accessories as well, especially if they are in some nice neon colour and are placed under a set of matching glasses along with a small thin vase with a flower in it. Place this set on the coffee table and you have a colour niche in your room.
Colourful artwork on the walls
Do not leave your walls empty and white, you will regret it. Add a dose of colour with the help of colourful artwork. Buy a painting in your favourite bright colours that goes well with some small decorating details in the room, like the tray on the coffee table, the vase in colour, or the pillows and blankets we mentioned before. Be careful when selecting artwork; always buy the pieces you like. If the original is too expensive (which usually is the case), get a one or more prints of original paintings. Check out online galleries and the wide array of colourful artwork from some of the best Australian emerging artists.
Curtains
If you love the morning sun breaching in your room through the naked windows, then you probably do not have curtains and you are not even considering any. No worries, you will still have all the sun you can possibly get with side curtains. Actually, these are not even real curtains, but pieces of material hanged on the side of the windows. This is a great way to add a dose of colour; you will not need to change anything else, just add a few decorations like small frames, vases or trays in the same colour and voila, you have created your small colourful paradise. Enjoy it!
