Most trailer owners are aware of all the things they need to do maintain their trailer in a good shape so that they get the maximum benefit from it, however, what many of them seem to often disregard is its security. That is, until it is too late. The truth is, there is always a certain risk of theft and if someone really wants to take your trailer – they will. Of course, if you leave them with enough access to it. Many thieves will just do their thing whenever they see an opportunity, regardless of the fact whether its value is worth $20, 000 or $2,000.

The first step towards theft prevention is deterrence – making sure it is not easy for a thief to take off with your vehicle. Consider the best security devices available so that you can reduce the chances of having your unit stolen. There are various devices you can ensure the safety of your trailer with, so as with most things – you generally get what you pay for – which makes it quite obvious why some are better than others.

Wheel clamps

These come in a variety of quality levels, but a good wheel clamp will help deter the thief as he would need some time to remove it, which in turn will buy you more time to catch him. They should be used whenever the trailer is left unattended regardless whether at home or away.

Trailer wheel lock

This is another great deterrent as the trailer wheel lock makes your caravan immobile since it prevents its wheels from turning. Ensure yourself a peace of mind and don’t ever think that there is no way a theft of this kind would happen to you. It most certainly can.

Coupling lock

This lock can work with various couplings in different sizes. It has a tow ball on which the coupling fits. After that, it is secured with a lockable bar that arches over the top of the coupling and secures your trailer in a way that it prevents the coupling latch from being lifted.

Lockable wheel nuts

These are a rather cost-effective way of protecting the wheels of your trailer or any other vehicle from theft. The standard wheel nuts, or lug nuts, can be removed with the help of an ordinary lug wrench.

Pad lock and chain

Although this is not the most secure solution there is, chaining the drawbar of your trailer can certainly help deter theft.
