You invited friends over to your house to watch the latest movie you have downloaded on your computer. But how to connect your PC to your TV in order to comfortably watch the movie instead of huddling around your tiny laptop. Depending on your TV, you can use few ways to connect your PC to the TV set. What you need are adequate cables such as HDMI cable for any uncompressed TV or PC format, or VGA monitor cable to support VGA resolution. Here are more details on how to connect your PC to your flat screen and stream online, watch YouTube clips or favorite shows without problem.
HDMI Port – Nowadays almost all flat-screen TVs have at least one HDMI port that makes connecting a PC to the TV possible by only using HDMI cable which goes into the HDMI port. This would be the best cable solution in order to transfer pictures or watch movies from one device to another. Connecting your PC to your flat screen would be possible only if the TV is manufactured in the last six years as these models include a HDMI port. One of the advantages of using HDMI cable is that it not only transmits HD video, but also transports video and audio from your PC to the TV. What you need to do before connecting HDMI cables is to enable the audio for your TV and set it as a default device.
VGA Port – First thing you need to check is the output port your computer has and match it with the one your TV has. After choosing the right output port you can start with the setup. If your computer has a VGA port than you will need to connect the VGA cable to TV in order to transfer video. Since VGA cables do not support audio signals, audio cable needs to be plugged into a different device such as computer speakers or home stereo system. After plugging the audio cable in your PC and VGA cable to TV, check the resolution. If it says invalid format, click on the screen resolution on your PC and choose the resolution that matches the aspect ratio. This is ideal way to make your own entertainment room. The only disadvantage of this setup is the lack of sound that can be fixed with 3.5-inch male connector that goes into the female headphone jack on your computer.
DVI Port – If your PC and your TV both have DVI ports, you can simply connect them with a compatible DVI cable to make a connection. DVI or also known as Digital Video Interface is a port that the newest TV generations and computers have. However, if your TV has an HDMI port you can use HDMI cable or a DVI cable since both are compatible with HDMI port. One thing that a VGA monitor cable and a DVI cable have in common is that they do not carry an audio signal. Unlike HDMI cables, DVI cables do not support audio signals and will need to connect an audio cable that has mini plugs at both ends. One side is connected to the headphone output of your computer and the other to the monitor.
