Gold prospecting is a rewarding hobby, but it’s not just about wandering into the bush with a detector and good intentions. Success often comes down to preparation and picking the right equipment. One piece of gear that makes a huge difference is the detector coil. It’s the part of your detector that searches the ground, listens for signals, and ultimately helps you uncover gold. Without the right coil, even the best detector can miss valuable targets.

What Are Nugget Finder Coils?

A search coil is the circular or elliptical attachment at the end of your metal detector shaft. It works by sending an electromagnetic field into the ground. When metal disrupts this field, the detector alerts you with a signal. Without the coil, your detector would have no way of sensing anything underground.

Nugget Finder is a respected Australian brand that manufactures aftermarket coils designed specifically for gold prospecting. They’re known for their reliability and sensitivity, especially in mineralised Australian soils. Many prospectors choose them because they offer sturdy build quality, great depth, and impressive ability to pick up small gold.

If you’re thinking of upgrading, browsing through nugget finder coils for sale is a good way to explore the different options and find something that suits your detecting environment.

source: highbanker.com.au

What Are the Different Types of Finder Coils?

If you’ve seen the wide range of nugget finder coils available, you’ll know how many choices there are. But it’s actually quite straightforward once you know what each type does. The three main styles you’ll encounter when searching for finder coils for your machine are:

Mono Coils (Monoloop)

Mono coils use a single winding for both transmitting and receiving signals. This gives them excellent depth and strong sensitivity to small gold. They can, however, be reactive in heavily mineralised ground. If the soil is fairly quiet, a mono coil can reach deeper nuggets than other types and pick up very fine pieces of gold.

Double-D (DD) Coils

A DD coil has two overlapping D-shaped windings. This design helps it run more smoothly in mineralised ground, which is common in many Australian goldfields. A DD coil usually gives a more stable signal and reduces false noises caused by minerals in the soil. It is slightly less sensitive to tiny gold than a mono coil, but it performs better in difficult ground conditions.

Concentric Coils

These coils have one winding inside another. They’re accurate when pinpointing targets and work well in mild soil. However, they don’t handle strong mineralisation very well. Because of this, they’re less popular for gold prospecting and more commonly used in coin or relic detecting.

Each coil type has its place, and most seasoned detectorists carry more than one to handle different environments and conditions.

Coil Size and Shape

Coil size has a huge impact on your detecting experience. Bigger isn’t automatically better, and neither is smaller. Each size has strengths and drawbacks.

Small Coils (6–11 inches)
Ideal for tight, scrubby terrain and highly mineralised soils, small coils are light, manoeuvrable, and incredibly sensitive to small nuggets. They excel when you’re chasing “specks and crumbs” that larger coils might miss.

Medium Coils (12–17 inches)
The versatile middle ground. Medium coils offer a solid balance between sensitivity and depth, making them a reliable choice for general-purpose detecting.

Large Coils (18 inches and above)
If you’re hunting in wide, open areas where big nuggets might lurk deep underground, a large coil is your best bet. The trade-off? They’re heavier, less sensitive to tiny gold, and can be tricky in tight or rocky ground.

Shape also matters: round coils typically give you greater depth, while elliptical coils are easier to manoeuvre in difficult terrain and provide better ground coverage. The good news is, with the wide range of nugget finder coils for sale online, you can mix and match until you find your perfect balance.

Terrain and Ground Mineralisation

Some gold fields are serene and sandy, while others are chock-full of mineralised rocks that can make a detector squeal like a kookaburra at dawn. Understanding how ground conditions affect your coil choice is key to successful prospecting.

Highly Mineralised Ground: This type of ground can make a detector feel unstable. A DD coil usually performs best here. Its design helps it remain steady and reduces noisy interference.

Mildly Mineralised or Quiet Ground: This is where mono coils shine. Their superior depth and sensitivity allow you to detect even the smallest nuggets buried deep beneath the surface.

Rocky or Uneven Terrain: Smaller or elliptical coils make manoeuvring easier and reduce the risk of knocking your coil against rocks or scrub.

Flat Open Country: Large coils are perfect here as their wide detection field covers more ground, increasing your chances of finding those elusive big nuggets.

The ground dictates the gear, so adjust your coil selection to the conditions, and you’ll dramatically improve your results.

How to Match the Coil to Your Detector

Matching your coil to your detector is all about compatibility and comfort. The first thing to check is whether the coil is designed for your detector model, as coils are often made with specific machines in mind. Your detector will also run on either PI or VLF technology, so the coil needs to match that system to work properly.

Weight is another important factor because a large coil can pull the detector forward and make long detecting sessions tiring. Waterproofing matters too, especially if you often explore creeks or damp ground, since some coils are fully waterproof while others can only tolerate light moisture.

It’s also worth checking that the connector style on the coil matches your detector’s socket so everything fits securely. Once you’ve chosen a compatible coil, give yourself time to test it and fine-tune the detector settings, as small adjustments in sensitivity or ground balance can make a noticeable difference in performance.

The versatility of utes is one of the reasons why they’re the favourite type of vehicle for the majority of Aussies. Staples like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton and the Isuzu D-Max are four of the top ten best-selling cars. These are vehicles that are equally good at shuttling building materials to the worksite, tackling nasty trails, or sending the kids off to school.

4×4 dual-cabs make the bulk of ute sales. And these are Australia’s most customised cars with a wide selection of ute accessories and parts sold. Toolboxes, canopies and trays all increase the available space without sacrificing cabin utility. They also add a needed dose of security and safety, while upping curb appeal. These accessories for utes are also the most popular choices when equipping extra and single cabs.

Toolboxes

Why have One?

A toolbox bolted onto the tray or tub has undeniable practical appeal. It organises tools, parts, equipment, and any remaining gear in neat internal compartments or drawers and shields anything inside from bad weather or thieves. The relatively small dimensions also mean that the left-over space on the tray or in the tub can be used for what owners find fit. Lastly, there are appearances to keep up, and toolboxes also do a very decent job in this respect.

Designs and Varieties

Shapes and designs impact functionality and where on the ute the toolboxes are placed. On-tray gullwing toolboxes are popular choices, as they open on both the driver’s and passenger’s side and allow for quick access. Other options bolted onto the tray are top or side open boxes. Undertray boxes fit near the wheel wells, and are smaller in size, but enhance space and organisation. For housing batteries for electric tippers or secondary batteries for caravans, drawbar toolboxes do a fine job. Somewhat bigger are camper or caravan trailer toolboxes used to accommodate goodies like sliding fridges and ovens for longer off-roading trips.

Materials and Build

Toolboxes need to be durable yet light enough to not impede the carrying capability of the rear axle. Aluminium is preferred in this respect, as it is also malleable, and relatively easy to weld. Stainless steel is still used, but in areas where it matters – hinges and locks. Rubber seals keep boxes watertight and external coatings in a range of colours guard against corrosion. TIG welds provide a clean look.

Toolboxes Accessories

Opening and closing lids and doors is smoother with fitted gas struts; internal storage can be further improved with drawers in different configurations, and security is enhanced with inexpensive anti-theft alarms.

Canopies

Canopies begin where toolboxes end. They are bigger in every respect, and often made to a higher standard. Most canopies will take up the whole width of the tray (roughly 1800mm), but lengths can vary anywhere between 700 and 2400mm depending on the tray size and cab style. The bigger dimensions call for internal beams, reinforced floors, and roofs with a high carrying capacity (up to 300 kilos).

Designs differ just like with toolboxes. These versatile accessories for utes can be optioned as part-tray, full length or lift-off variants. Part-tray canopies are just that, with lengths levelling out at 1500mm, and height kept to a standard 850mm and in line with the cab profile. Full-length canopies take up all available space, with larger variants naturally reserved for single cabs. Extra cab canopies can extend to 2100mm, whereas dual cab variants to 1800mm. Still, this is way larger than even the largest toolboxes.

Lift or jack-off canopies can be lifted off the tray and placed on 4 legs. The design implies more materials be used in the canopy base to support the weight of tools and gear inside and to prevent caving. It also means that they are limited to 1800mm to incorporate the side bracing. The benefit of freeing up space with a completely empty tray, though, pays off with the increased functionality. Any goods can be secured inside and kept in a designated place, while the tray is free for other uses.

Materials in canopies are of the same high-standard aluminium and steel mix, with more attention to internal bracing. Canopies however can take more accessories. Jerry can holders, spare wheel holders, roof racks, and ladders are just a few. Both toolboxes and canopies can have checker plate exterior finishes that allow for loading extra gear, and this has a non-slip surface to keep all items put.

Trays

While tubs are the ute parts most often pushed by dealers, there’s more fun with a chassis-only build, regardless of the cab style. Tubs are easily removed (and won’t come back any time soon) and custom trays can take their place, offered in the dimensions, materials, build, and extra features to suit individual needs and vehicle specifics.

Trays can consist of the deck only (with integrated wheel guards), or have straight or tapered designs and an included headboard. Widths will be around 1780-1800mm to fit most utes (the VW Amarok being the exception here at 1900mm) and lengths from 1600 to 1800mm depending if the tray is for an extra-cab or dual cab design.

Structural strength is provided with a thick C-channel and main frame, along with a rectangular hollow section subframe. Trays can be had either in lightweight or non-corrosive aluminium. There’s also ‘black’ (untreated) or galvanised steel, with the latter being more durable.

Ensure that you get all the necessary goodies, like a non-slip surface, built-in tie-down points, and a complete range of lights and indicators. Some builders will also throw in undertray toolboxes or trundle drawers. Trays are more often a custom build, but there are builders that offer pre-fabricated lineups to suit most ute makes. This also applies to tray and canopy combos that can be had for much cheaper (and in a cleaner look) than building the two separately.

Generally speaking, fire clothing is seen as something used only by firefighters. Although people in this profession make the most use out of this type of apparel, they are not the only ones that utilize it. Pharmaceutical and chemical workers also rely on the protection firefighting clothes offer as well as people who work in food processing plants, the paper and pulp industry, certain utility workers and electricians too. Not all of them need the same amount of protection tough which is why there are different types of fire apparel.

Source: Sbs-zipper.com

Fire-resistant clothes, which are also known as flame-resistant, are made from non-flammable fabrics. This means that the chemical structure of the materials doesn’t catch on fire that easily. These clothes can still catch fire, but they will self-extinguish or burn slowly depending on how strong the fire is. Fire-retardant clothes, on the other hand, aren’t made of non-flammable fabrics, instead they have undergone a chemical treatment in order to get the same flame-resistant properties as non-flammable fabrics.

What Are Firefighter Clothes Made of?

Modacrylic

These type of fibres are the most commonly used option nowadays. Modacrylic fibres are regularly used in combo with different flame-resistant fabrics to create a blend. This blend makes for fire clothes that can easily comply with several different regulations and standards.

Kevlar

This is another type of flame resistant fibres used in all kinds of applications other than FR clothes but they also provide something that modacrylic fibres don’t. Kevlar is known to be extremely strong which can make for rigid and durable flame-resistant clothing. Kevlar fibres are often combined with Nomex fibres.

Nomex

Nomex fibres, like the aforementioned ones are obviously fire-resistant but unlike modacrylic fibres they can be used on their own too. There is FR apparel that is made entirely of Nomex. This standalone fabric allows manufacturers to make more affordable fire-resistant clothes.

Source: Iffmag.mdmpublishing.com

Primary vs Secondary Protection

Fire clothes can provide primary and secondary protection. When a certain garment or set of garments offer primary protection it usually means that they are flame-resistant. This also means that you can wear them in a setting where you will constantly be exposed to open flames, molten substance splashes and radiating heat. This type of protection is most commonly used by firefighters, but if you work in an environment with similar conditions there is no harm in having primary protection FR garments.

Secondary protection clothes can offer protection from radiant heat, flames and molten substance splashes but not when these factors are constant. This means that fire apparel with secondary protection is meant for users who won’t be exposed to the aforementioned factors as much.

How Fire Clothes Should Fit

Source: Theguardian.com

Tips

Firefighting clothes can offer more protection when they are not tight. A looser fit has a layer of air between the garment and you which provides added insulation form heat and flames. If the fire-resistant/retardant clothes you’re going to be wearing are skintight, the flames will come into closer contact, almost against your skin. It’s not that the clothing won’t do its job but it’s safer to have that cushion of air between the fabric and your skin.

This doesn’t mean that you should get the baggiest clothes either. This may sound like a great idea at first but it can actually be quite dangerous. Baggy clothes can easily tear from hazards around you or snag onto objects which can either get you stuck or exposed to the environmental hazard around you. A balanced fit is what you should aim for. The clothes should be slightly loose whilst having a fairly snug fit. But like most clothes, FR clothing can shrink a little after the first couple of washings. Keep in mind that you’ll need to get slightly bigger clothes that can accommodate both for the shrinking and the air cushion.

What to Wear Under Fire Clothes

What you wear underneath the fire-resistant/retardant apparel is also important when it comes to the effectiveness of the FR garments. In this case you should avoid wearing garments that burn quickly and are prone to melting. These are usually garments made of synthetic fabrics such as spandex, acetate, nylon, polyester and under-armour. 100% Cotton garments, although by some safety regulations are allowed to be worn underneath FR clothes, are still not recommended. This is because cotton, much like synthetic fabrics, burns quickly but luckily it doesn’t melt. Silk, wool and linen can also quickly catch on fire and burn rapidly too but unlike synthetic fabrics they do not melt. These materials are treated with chemicals so they can handle better thermal exposure. This is why you need to wear garments made from natural fabrics treated with flame retardants under your FR clothes.

There have been DIY enthusiasts for as long as humanity has been existing, as in ancient times people didn’t have much of a choice. However, in these modern days, not many people have the courage to undertake DIY projects and only a small number enjoy creating or engineering things by themselves. This means that most of these people are really dedicated to the hobby and spend a lot of money and time on purchasing the needed tools and working on their chosen projects.

If you’re someone who wants to venture into this hobby but doesn’t know where to start – it’s really simple: start by cleaning up your garage and buying the necessary engineering workshop equipment. Once you have that, you can look up some interesting DIY projects for beginners to work on, and start from there. However, there is a ton of engineering workshop equipment to choose from, so this might be confusing and seem to you a bit of a hassle. For that reason, I’ve made a list of the most essential tools you need to buy before starting with your first DIY project. Let’s see what you’ll need.

A Claw Hammer

A claw hammer is something you should own, regardless whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or not. You can use it to pound nails into wood. This tool is quite powerful, can be useful in many situations and can come in a few different varieties. It can drive or remove nails and can be put to use in other creative ways as well. For instance, you can use it to help yourself dig a hole, split wood, break ice or even tear down drywall.

A Level

Even a simple thing as hanging a picture on the wall can be your first DIY activity. A hammer, a picture hook and a nail, and there you have it. However, if you want to take it to the next level from the very beginning, use a level (pun unintended). There are many different types of levels that can be used for different things. For example, a plumb bob level is the best option for hanging wallpapers, or a long carpenter’s level is best for hanging a picture.

A Wrench

Wrenches are available in a wide array of styles for a variety of applications. Some work with standard fasteners, while others are for metric applications. You can look for colour coding on wrenches to quickly distinguish whether they’re standard or metric. The wrench you choose should depend on the projects you want to complete.

A Screwdriver

Screwdrivers come in two common forms – standard and X-shaped. A multi-bit screwdriver allows for its tip to be interchanged. The most simple type of screwdriver uses the Phillips tips, and they come in sets of dozens or more. From the flat-head to the square-tipped, sockets, torx, hex keys, etc. you can rest assured you won’t come short of screwdriver choices regardless of the type of project you are working on, which makes them a quite worthy investment.

The compressors have become an essential part of many industrial projects, commercial construction projects and small-scale home projects. To maximize the efficiency and to ensure a long term service of your compressor, you need to choose the right model and to maintain it regularly and properly. Regular maintenance is important for effective results and increased productivity. Since it is a complex machine, the maintenance should be performed by an experienced technician. Even compressors manufactured by reliable brands, such as Champion Australia, which are made from high-quality materials require proper and regular maintenance. To save time and money, here are few easy ways to maintain your compressor:

Read The Manual: Manufacturers of air compressors always provide a manual along with their products. This manual contains essential information and usage guidance. By sticking to the manual rules, capacities, information and some maintenance tips, you can avoid costly repairs and breakdowns.

Regular Compressor Oil Checks: If you are using an oil-type air compressor, daily check ups are recommended to ensure proper operation. When the oil level is low, your compressor could easily breakdown, meaning that costly repairs or replacements will be needed, especially if the compressor is manufactured by Champion Australia or other popular brand. In order to prevent costly repairs in future, change the oil on every 1000 hours of operation.

Regular Hoses Checks: The hoses are some of the most important parts of the compressors, and because of that they need to be regularly checked for corrosion or cracks. It is easy to notice a damaged or broken hose, and you need to immediately replace a damaged hose. Using your compressor with cracked or damaged hose will definitely have an impact on the effectiveness of your operation.

Clean The Intake Vents Regularly: The compressors offered by many Champion Australia suppliers are described as reliable and durable, but after some time, their intake vents need to be cleaned just like the other compressor parts. Dust is a common problem for the intake vents, because it can cause your compressor to work harder than needed. Therefore, the intake vents require proper maintenance and regular checks.

Clean The Fuel Tank: Another way to ensure a long life of your compressor is to clean the fuel tank after some period of heavy usage. The fuel contains harmful particles that may impact the compressor. By cleaning the fuel tank, at least once in a year, you can be sure that your compressor will work efficiently and smoothly.

Let’s get one thing straight, fitness is not about showing off that you are better than your girlfriends, but about being better than you used to be. And there is no greater satisfaction than overcoming your limits. If you have time for blogging and spending hours on the Internet doing nothing, you surely have time to exercise.

And if you want to achieve a whole new level of greatness while working out, what you need is compression gear. Wondering what I am talking about? Times have changed and compression is no longer used for the socks your grandma wears to help her circulation. Since many studies have shown that it can improve endurance and recovery and improve athletic performance, compression gear has taken a whole new role in the world of fitness. It is due to the science and technology behind it.

Although compression gear may look like everyday clothing, it goes way beyond that. The super snug fit flatters every curve of the body making you feel like a Victoria’s Secret angel. True, they are a great self-confidence booster and make you feel like you could conquer the world, but the best thing about these amazing sportswear is that it can be also worn outside the gym. I am sure you have never thought of this, but oh well, you are welcomed.

Pre-workout

Starting to workout in a gym without any previous preparation whatsoever, is a deadly deed. Your muscles will be sore for days and you will surely have difficulties doing all your physical activities without painful aches. Compression gear will help you warm up smarter and faster. These pieces of workout equipment apply pressure to the muscles and joints that helps increase blood circulation, helping you warm up faster than with a regular gear.

Recovery

For many people the worst part of the day after working out, is definitely feeling like they have been ran out by a bus. Believe me, I know the struggle, experienced it more than once and it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. Well, the next time after you work out, try sleeping in compression tights. The pressure that compression gear will add on your muscle tissue will help you accelerate the break down blood lactates and get a faster repair. You will wake up feeling fresh and rejuvenated, ready to face the challenges the new day brings.

The compaction process of pavement materials like granular, asphalt and concrete is essential so that the strength and stiffness can be achieved. Recent studies have shown that lower ground compaction can lead to much lower strength and modulus of the pavement layer. The usage of special compaction machines such as the padfoot roller and the smooth drum roller has been beneficial for the ground stabilization process. Today, much heavier compaction machines are also available that provide static compaction so that effective density can be achieved in ground layers which are up to 250 mm in thickness. In some road constructions, the so called “spread and mix” operations can be subcontracted to specialists for a ground stabilization to achieve higher density. Generally, there are three main compaction methods for achieving density in stabilized materials: static compaction, dynamic compaction and impact compaction.

Static Compaction – With this compaction method, the weight of the compaction machine is applied directly to the soil to achieve higher pressure to the upper layers of the ground. The total weight of the compaction machine can be increased by additional steel weights that can be mounted at the rear end of the machine or by using water. The most commonly used compacting machines for the static compaction are:

Three wheeled rollers

Soil compactors

Smooth drum rollers

Padfoot rollers

Pneumatic multi wheel rollers

Dynamic Compaction – Dynamic compaction is used for achieving rapid succession of impacts against the ground. Dynamic compaction machines when compared to the static compaction machines, are capable of providing higher compaction levels. The typical dynamic compaction machines used are:

Single drum roller

Tandem drum roller

Padfoot rollers

Impact Compaction – This compaction method provides greater but less rapid impact compaction. The impact compaction machines need to be operated at significantly higher speed when compared with the vibratory and static compaction machines. Three compaction machines are used for impact ground compaction:

Self propelled tandem roller

Towed impact roller compactor

Hand held roller compactor

For pavement materials which consist sand and gravel, the contractors will add certain amount of water in order to increase the moisture level. If the moisture level of the pavement materials is very dry, greater compaction effort is required. On the other hand, if the moisture level is bigger than the optimum moisture level, drying process is required. Clay materials generally require greater compacting effort than the granular materials. For these materials, a heavy static compacting roller should be used rather than the lighter padfoot roller compactors.

Hand-held and masonry saws are heavily used in construction industry. These machines are mainly used for cutting thorough different kinds of materials like concrete, stones, bricks, blocks and pavers, etc. Although masonry saws and the masonry cutting process are integral part of many construction projects, the cutting process creates high levels of dirt and dust. Very often, this dust contains dangerous silica materials. Therefore, working with masonry saws and breathing the dust with silica content can lead to serious respiratory health problems, or more seriously, it can result in damaging the lung tissue, leading to a lung cancer. Fortunately, today on the market there are masonry saws that come with dust control mechanisms for higher protection. Generally, there are two main dust control mechanisms for minimizing dust exposure when cutting with masonry saws. The following text will describe the most common ways to control the dust when masonry saws are used.

Wet Cutting And Suspension Of Dust With Water – Water can be used for minimizing and suppressing dust which is generated when either hydraulic, pneumatic or gasoline powered masonry saws are used. The water is directly applied on the cutting blade through one or more nozzles. This wet system is powered by combustion engines or by compressed air. However, such wet systems for dust control should not be used on electrical powered masonry saws. One very effective wet cutting system is the portable pressured tank system. Most masonry saws are equipped with this portable system. Generally, it comes with polypropylene bottle that has a capacity of holding approx eight liters of water. The bottle is connected to the blade by a plastic tube. A on/off valve is used to control the water supply. The mostly recommended water flow rate for effective dust suspension is 0.5 liters of water per minute. Applying less water will result in less effective dust suspension. Also, more water will not result in higher dust control.

Local Exhaust Ventilation System – The local exhaust ventilation system is used in masonry saws as an exhaust hood which surrounds the blade of the saw. A flexible hose is used to connect the hood with one industrial vacuum cleaner. The function of the vacuum cleaner is to create suction so that dust can be quickly captured. For best results, the hood should always be close to the material or object that is being cut. Adjustable hoods are preferred because they can accommodate various cutting depths. The cleaner needs to have the following features for effective dust suspension:

flow rate capable to capture and to move the amount of dust generated by the masonry saw to the vacuum source

very effective particulate air filter which minimizes the chances of dust being released from the vacuum cleaner

an air filter replacement indicator like a pressure gauge

high effective motor that draws more than 10 amps

This system however doesn’t provide the wet slurry which is associated with the wet dust suspension.
