Did you know that you can turn your loader into completely different machine? To do so, you only need to do match your loader with the right attachment. To turn your loader into an excavator, you need to use appropriate back hoe attachments. Various back hoe attachments can increase the versatility of your loader and make it suitable for a variety of applications, such as digging water lines, power lines, landscaping and many other excavation applications. After the digging operation, you can use another attachment, such as bucket for other operations. Functionality, versatility and efficient performance is what you can get from a loader with different back hoe attachments. There are few ways to turn your loader into an efficient excavator, you can try one of the following methods:

Attach A 1.8m-Backhoe – For lighter excavating jobs, this back hoe attachment is the perfect tool for your loader. It is ideal for works in narrow spaces that require no more than 1.8 meters of digging depth. This backhoe attachment is easy to use and maintain. Also, it features fold-down stabilizers for increased stability. Low operating costs and increased efficiency, this attachment can turn your loader into an efficient excavator.

Attach A 2.1m-Backhoe – For complex excavating jobs, a bigger back hoe attachment will do the job. A 2.1m back hoe has a deeper digging depth of 2.4 meters and comes with vertical stabilizers for increased stability in tighter working areas. It allows you to perform both straight wall digging and power digging tasks, thanks to the single bucket-mounting position. It is also easy to attach and easy to maintain, ideal for various excavating tasks.

Frame-Mounted Back Hoe – The frame-mounted back hoe is one of the most popular back hoe attachments, as it provides incredible control and stability. Also, it provides a swing arc of 180 degrees and a great front visibility. This back hoe attachment makes the back hoe loader suitable for placing and picking various materials.

But do you need more than just digging and excavating with your back hoe loader? There are lots of other back hoe attachments that can help you on the job site. For example, the ripper is one of the most commonly used back hoe attachments, capable to break any hard surface before the digging operation. Or you can try the grading bucket, a wide and smooth lip bucket, for cleaning ditches or similar applications. So, if you are not willing to spend a lot of money for an excavator, you should consider buying back hoe attachments for performing excavating jobs with your back hoe loader.

Maintaining all terrain cranes is a process of ensuring that the all terrain mobile crane is kept in a safe and good condition. The maintenance of the all terrain cranes is very important process, and if not carried out properly, the all terrain cranes will not deliver the expected results. In specific circumstances on the job site, the all terrain mobile crane might require more frequent maintenance because of the extensive usage. When the all terrain mobile crane is set up on a job site, the operator needs to make sure that the crane is properly maintained. There are several ways for maintaining all terrain cranes properly: preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance and predictive maintenance.

Preventive Maintenance. Every all terrain mobile crane needs to be maintained on a regular basis so that any failure or defect can be detected on time. This will also reduce the safety and healthy risks when the operators use the crane on the construction site. For long lasting usage and effective results, it is important for the operator or the owner of the crane to have records of all daily checks, inspections, breakdown reports, maintenance work in details, or in short to have a full history of the crane.

Another important aspect of the preventive maintenance is the continuous review of all maintenance records, records thorough examination and inspection reports. These records are important for ensuring effective maintenance and detection of defects and worn parts. The preventive maintenance is carried out at specific intervals that are based on actual hours of operation of the all terrain mobile crane. However, this type of maintenance cannot be carried out by a non-competent persons. There are specific maintenance training courses, so those who are interested may participate in such in order to learn to maintain their all terrain cranes by themselves.

Breakdown Maintenance. Breakdown maintenance is a straightforward and simple maintenance program. Many crane operators are guided by the logic that if something is not broken, it doesn’t require repair or maintenance. Indeed it is a way to save a lot of money, but a breakdown of an all terrain mobile crane could lead to expensive project delays. Also, the repair costs might be extremely high if the all terrain mobile crane breaks down.

Predictive Maintenance. The predictive maintenance is similar to the preventive maintenance, but instead of relying on industry statistics to determine the maintenance intervals, it uses direct monitoring of the all terrain cranes. This includes checking the electrical and mechanical condition, the environmental factors and many other indicators. By following these indicators you can easily identify signs of potential breakdowns, and also achieve a good balance between low maintenance costs and unpredictable failures.

However, every maintenance method requires adequate equipment and personnel in order to be carried out in the most efficient and safer manner.

Every construction site is a field with countless potential hazards. In fact, construction sites can easily be labeled as one of the most dangerous job sites in the world. Extremely large construction equipment can be found on any construction site, such as large cranes, truck-mounted cement mixers, loaders and other machines. This is why it is of utmost importance for every construction company to clearly state and pay attention to various safety procedures. This does not mean that accidents will not occur because of many other different factors, out of which the human factor is the most common one. There are many ways to avoid accidents and to stay safe on a construction site.

Certificate – The operators of the construction equipment need to gain a certificate through training courses of different levels. Many construction equipment training courses are available from different training providers. Once the operators complete the training courses, they will get a certificate and will be registered in the Australian database of construction workers. So, the certificate is a guarantee that the operators are trained well to operate construction equipment properly. Knowing how to use construction equipment minimizes the chances for accidents on the construction field.

Quality Construction Equipment – The contractors should be prepared to invest a great amount of money in quality construction equipment in order to get the job done in the most efficient way. For example, a construction company that performs many lifting operations should invest in a reliable and quality construction crane. As the crane plays a vital role in any construction field, the contractors must be prepared to buy high quality construction crane not only to complete the job properly, but also to increase the safety level on the construction field. Having a reliable and high quality construction crane on the construction field equals increased safety.

Meeting The Requirements – The certificate helps in reducing accidents on the construction field by ensuring that the operators of construction equipment are well trained for tough jobs, while meeting the requirements of the construction field keeps the workers safe. However, there are general standards for mobile crane operators, tower crane operators, loader operators and other operators. The employers usually expect the employees to respect the requirements on the construction field, and to try to meet them. A supervisor on the construction field needs to be familiar with every technical aspect involved in the operations on the construction field, and to set standards that will keep the workers safe and well protected.

Industrial mixers are used virtually in any industry and some recent study showed that the mixer market is becoming a very profitable business, estimated at $600 million. One contender that is a perfect fit for this challenge is the new multifunctional mixing agitator. The mixing agitator is cost-efficient as it turns more mixing steps into one within one mixing cycle. It is a very versatile machine and is able to switch gears, due to the few independent agitators and flexible control system. This mixing agitator is known as multi-agitator, because it is designed with two or three agitators mounted on a stationary shaft. The multi mixing agitator today is far more sophisticated as it features advances in the design, heat transfer, control design and liquid induction. All these features make it more efficient, but also more competitive on the market.

The multi mixing agitator enables operators to operate two or three different agitators at the same time during the process of charging ingredients, mixing them and discharging a finished product. Usually, each agitator is controlled independently and powered by a separate electronic variable speed drive. For simple applications, the expertise suggest duel-shaft mixing agitators, as are more affordable choice for basic and slow mixing. However, flexible process lines which deal with wide and diverse range of products should consider multi mixing agitators for sale, in order to satisfy the demand and survive competition.

As we mentioned, the multi mixing agitator is driven by two or three independently controlled agitators. The best way to understand the whole process of multi mixing agitator is to have a basic understanding of each agitator.

Three-Wing Anchor Agitator: Located down low, the three-wing anchor provides a smooth mixing and stimulates radial/axial flow. Its functions are to support heat transfer, feed materials and batch homogeneity. It is ideal for large batch sizes, as it always runs and is efficient with high viscosity materials or liquids.

High-Speed Disperser: The high speed disperser provides a substantial flow and a vortex above the blade. It generates moderate shear and its blade can vary in design and principle of working. This makes it very flexible and easy to use and maintain. When combined with the three-wing anchor, it is the most efficient. Flexible and versatile, the high speed disperser is used virtually in any industry.

Rotor/Stator High-Shear Mixer: The high-shear mixing agitator applies intense mechanical/hydraulic shear, using a high speed rotor or stator. The rotor has four blades which generate high speed within the stator. This makes it perfect for dissolution, grinding, dispersion, emulsification, etc.

To be continued…

New technology, machines and new materials are constantly invented and used in the road construction projects around the world. Increased durability, quality and safety on the roads is a major concern for every road construction engineer. Also is protecting and preserving the environment. To achieve effective road construction, engineers usually implement one of the following construction methods (depending on the type of material that is used for the road construction):

asphalt road construction

concrete road construction

composite road construction

recycling method, and

bituminous solutions.

All these construction techniques provide increased dust control and increased soil stabilization. Soil stabilization and dust control can be achieved by including appropriate machines in the project like road stabilisers, compaction machines, soil stabilisers etc.

Asphalt Roads. Asphalt paving is the most common road construction method, used since the invention of the asphalt materials in the 1920s. With this method, a layer of asphalt material is laid on top of the soil. Before asphalt is applied to the ground surface, the soil is compacted and stabilized to achieve required levels of moisture and density. Proper stabilization can be achieved by road stabilisers or soil stabilisers. The soil stabiliser blends the soil and mixes it with water and a binder agent to create smooth surface. Main advantages of this road construction method are:

traffic creates minimal noise on the asphalt

asphalt is not as expensive as other materials

asphalt roads are relatively easy to repair and require less maintenance.

Concrete Roads. Concrete is another construction method for roadways, but it is mainly used in the construction of local and small roads. Generally, three main types of concrete surfaces are used in the construction of roads: JRCP, JPCP, and CRCP. The type of join system that is used to prevent crack formations is the main feature which makes these concrete road surfaces to be different form one another. Appropriate road stabilisers or soil stabilisers are also required for effective road construction. Concrete is more durable than asphalt, but is more expensive and requires more maintenance.

Composite Roads. The composite materials are combination of both asphalt and concrete and are more durable and easy to maintain, recycle and rehabilitate. Effective road construction requires usage of composite materials.

Recycling. The recycling method is the most cost-effective solution for replacing damaged and deteriorated roads and highways. There are three main recycling methods for achieving effective road construction:

Rubblizing – involves reducing the road level to gravel for applying a new layer of either asphalt, concrete or a composite materials.

Cold or hot in-place recycling – it relies heavily on applying bituminous pavement for road reinforcement.

Full depth reclamation – it includes pulverization process and the addition of different binding materials.

For effective recycling, special machines are needed like road stabiliser, also known as soil stabiliser and road recycler. These machines are powerful enough to remove the old asphalt for recycling and replacement.

Bituminous Techniques. The bituminous techniques are only used on very low traffic surfaces. Thin membrane surfacing, chip-sealing methods are all examples of bituminous solutions for road surface.

Recent studies have shown that lower ground compaction can lead to much lower strength and modulus of the pavement layer. The usage of special compaction machines such as the padfoot roller and the smooth drum roller has been beneficial for the ground stabilization process. Today, much heavier compaction machines are also available that provide static compaction so that effective density can be achieved in ground layers which are up to 250 mm in thickness. In some road constructions, the so called “spread and mix” operations can be subcontracted to specialists for a ground stabilization to achieve higher density. Generally, there are three main compaction methods for achieving density in stabilized materials: static compaction, dynamic compaction and impact compaction.

Static Compaction – With this compaction method, the weight of the compaction machine is applied directly to the soil to achieve higher pressure to the upper layers of the ground. The total weight of the compaction machine can be increased by additional steel weights that can be mounted at the rear end of the machine or by using water. The most commonly used compacting machines for the static compaction are:

Three wheeled rollers

Soil compactors

Smooth drum rollers

Padfoot rollers

Pneumatic multi wheel rollers

Dynamic Compaction – Dynamic compaction is used for achieving rapid succession of impacts against the ground. Dynamic compaction machines when compared to the static compaction machines, are capable of providing higher compaction levels. The typical dynamic compaction machines used are:

Single drum roller

Tandem drum roller

Padfoot rollers

Impact Compaction – This compaction method provides greater but less rapid impact compaction. The impact compaction machines need to be operated at significantly higher speed when compared with the vibratory and static compaction machines. Three compaction machines are used for impact ground compaction:

Self propelled tandem roller

Towed impact roller compactor

Hand held roller compactor

For pavement materials which consist sand and gravel, the contractors will add certain amount of water in order to increase the moisture level. If the moisture level of the pavement materials is very dry, greater compaction effort is required. On the other hand, if the moisture level is bigger than the optimum moisture level, drying process is required. Clay materials generally require greater compacting effort than the granular materials. For these materials, a heavy static compacting roller should be used rather than the lighter padfoot roller compactors.

Hand-held and masonry saws are heavily used in construction industry. These machines are mainly used for cutting thorough different kinds of materials like concrete, stones, bricks, blocks and pavers, etc. Although masonry saws and the masonry cutting process are integral part of many construction projects, the cutting process creates high levels of dirt and dust. Very often, this dust contains dangerous silica materials. Therefore, working with masonry saws and breathing the dust with silica content can lead to serious respiratory health problems, or more seriously, it can result in damaging the lung tissue, leading to a lung cancer. Fortunately, today on the market there are masonry saws that come with dust control mechanisms for higher protection. Generally, there are two main dust control mechanisms for minimizing dust exposure when cutting with masonry saws. The following text will describe the most common ways to control the dust when masonry saws are used.

Wet Cutting And Suspension Of Dust With Water – Water can be used for minimizing and suppressing dust which is generated when either hydraulic, pneumatic or gasoline powered masonry saws are used. The water is directly applied on the cutting blade through one or more nozzles. This wet system is powered by combustion engines or by compressed air. However, such wet systems for dust control should not be used on electrical powered masonry saws. One very effective wet cutting system is the portable pressured tank system. Most masonry saws are equipped with this portable system. Generally, it comes with polypropylene bottle that has a capacity of holding approx eight liters of water. The bottle is connected to the blade by a plastic tube. A on/off valve is used to control the water supply. The mostly recommended water flow rate for effective dust suspension is 0.5 liters of water per minute. Applying less water will result in less effective dust suspension. Also, more water will not result in higher dust control.

Local Exhaust Ventilation System – The local exhaust ventilation system is used in masonry saws as an exhaust hood which surrounds the blade of the saw. A flexible hose is used to connect the hood with one industrial vacuum cleaner. The function of the vacuum cleaner is to create suction so that dust can be quickly captured. For best results, the hood should always be close to the material or object that is being cut. Adjustable hoods are preferred because they can accommodate various cutting depths. The cleaner needs to have the following features for effective dust suspension:

flow rate capable to capture and to move the amount of dust generated by the masonry saw to the vacuum source

very effective particulate air filter which minimizes the chances of dust being released from the vacuum cleaner

an air filter replacement indicator like a pressure gauge

high effective motor that draws more than 10 amps

This system however doesn’t provide the wet slurry which is associated with the wet dust suspension.
