If you are a truck driver you either own a truck or drive a company one. However it is, truck is most likely you second home during a working week. And not only that. Your truck is also an advertising medium that needs to be cleaned in order to send the right massage to other drivers and pedestrians. Having said so, maintaining your truck is vital for increased comfort while driving and sleeping in it. State and city infrastructures are so developed today that car wash drive-ins and mobile truck wash companies are available on every corner. But sometimes you might miss all these on the road and you should be prepared to wash the truck all by yourself. That is why you should get informed about washing your truck and the stuff you’ll need to do this.
The best way to wash a truck is to use a pressure washer and several types of brushes for the paint, windshield and rims. By several types we refer to different fiber of brushes because you cannot use a soft brush to wipe bugs on the windshield in the same manner as you can’t use sharp-hair brush to apply the soap on the paint. When it comes to detergent, never use dish washing liquids as they can cause the paint to fade over time. The best option is to buy special car wash soap. If you have a friend who runs a static or mobile truck washing company, you can ask him about which car soap brands are best to use.
Now that we have gathered all the items we need, we will explain in few steps how to wash your truck.
First you need to get a low pressure nozzle for the pressure washer. This is because with high pressure washers you can damage the paint job on the truck after several washes. Make sure you wet every surface of the truck thoroughly and remove dry stains. If you don’t own a pressure washer you can always call a mobile truck wash to assist you with this.
Once you have rinsed the exterior of the truck with water it is time to apply the soap using the soft brush. Car and truck soap is specially made so that it cannot damage the clear coat and offer flexibility when applying it on the surface. Moreover, when washing with soap it is better to start from bottom and work your way up. This way you can prevent drying the soap on places you started washing because water will constantly be pouring down from the top. Also be persistent and try to remove all the hard dirt and stains.
After you have applied the soap, it’s time to use the pressure washer again. Not changing the low pressure, rinse the whole truck again and make sure you don’t leave soapy water to dry.
The final step requires a lint-free cotton towel and a simple technique of pulling the towel towards you when you are wiping. For example, if you are wiping the hood start from the top and pull the towel towards you so that you don’t leave any brush marks.
