Today’s turbulent global economy forces us to look for ways to maximize every cent. Whether it is refinancing a home loan, moving to areas cheap to rent, using coupons when grocery, clothing and shoe shopping, etc., lowering monthly expenses is the reality of the present time. But how to cut on necessary living expenses such as your car. Cars have become a must-have accessory for majority of us and it is almost unimaginable not to own one. But with gas prices on the rise, many are looking for alternatives and ways to lower car expenses. Here are few suggestions.
Drive Smart –Poor driving is one of major culprits in high car expenses. Driving over the speed limit, increases emissions, lowers fuel efficiency, cause premature brake pad and tire wear, harms the engine and above all, increases safety risks and can put you, your passengers and all other participants on the road in jeopardy.
Drive Less – Driving less is another useful way to lower your car expenses. Use your car only when necessary and avoid driving on short-distance trips. Walk instead. Or ride a bike. You will not only save on gas, but improve your health as well. Little exercise hasn’t hurt anyone.
Switch To LPG fuel – If you use your car every day, using LPG fuel is a very cost-effective solution. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is almost half the price compared to the prices of unleaded petrol. In fact, according to recent numbers, average price of unleaded petrol is 144 cents per liter, while the price of LPG fuel is 78 cents per litre. The difference is huge which is why many car owners decide to convert from petrol to LPG fuel. If you think converting a vehicle from petrol to LPG is a bit costly, think again. The average cost of switching from petrol to LPG is anywhere between $2000 and $3000. However, given the fact that all states give rebates, with $1000 government rebate, switching from petrol to LPG is a smart thing to do. LPG fuel will not only fatten your wallet, but protect environment. Since LPG does not contain majority of petrol harmful substances, it is better for the environment.
Regular service – Take your car regularly to a car service, because detecting a problem on time, can save you a lot of money. Aside from periodic inspection, check your car daily. Inspect your tires for any tear and make sure they are properly inflated. Check brake pads, engine oil and other fluids, signal and regular lights, windows for any cracks, etc.
Regular car wash – Washing and cleaning your car regularly will increase fuel economy, contribute to perfect engine performance and prolong the life of your vehicle. This will surely lower your car expenses.
Clean your trunk – Make sure your trunk is not filled with unnecessary things, because the lighter your car is, the less fuel it will use.
