Opening a pet grooming salon is one of the best decisions you can make. This is a business with services that are always in demand. Find the proper location, invest in good marketing,, and you’re good to go. Most importantly, make sure you invest in high-quality grooming gear that will give your customers the best grooming experience.

Grooming Table

source: freepik.com

The grooming table is one of the pet salon equipment essentials needed for your business. It’s your main working station and it has to be strong and sturdy to handle both smaller and bigger animals. There are several types of tables you can choose from. The first and most popular one is the electric table.

The biggest advantage is the adjustable height. Yes, it can be more expensive than the others, but it’s worth the investment because it’s very convenient and practical. It moves with just a press of a button. Some of them can even have a rotating top and some extra features such as noses and harnesses, storage cabinets and drawers and power outlets.

Hydraulic tables are easy to control but you have to do it manually through a pedal underneath. They can also have rotating tops you can lock at any position. The third type are folding tables. They’re the least expensive and are good if you’re grooming dogs in their homes. They’re lightweight and easy to store. However, because of their construction, they’re not that sturdy and stable, and not suitable for bigger and heavier dog breeds.

There are a few things to consider before investing in this type of practical pet salon equipment. Number one is the materials it’s made of. Make sure they’re strong and durable. Stainless steel is a great option because it’s sturdy and rust-resistant. Make sure the edges are rounded so the animal or you don’t get hurt.

You’ll never know the size of the pet that’s going to come to the salon. That’s why it’s good to invest in a bigger table that can handle the size of all breeds. The table should also have a nice restraining system to prevent the animals from jumping or falling. Last but not least is your height. Choose a table that will match your height so that it’s comfortable enough for your arms not to get strained during the day.

Brushes & Combs

Every grooming process requires some brushes and combs. It makes the whole process much simpler and easier. These tools will massage the animal’s skin and activate its natural oils. They’ll also remove mats and knots and keep the fur glossy and sleek. The slicker brush has tightly-spaced thin wires on a flat surface and it’s perfect for medium-sized coats.

Having rakes is also an excellent idea. They work wonders for getting rid of knots and dead undercoats. The majority of them can handle dogs with thick furs with ease and have two rows of pins. Choose this type of dog grooming equipment carefully: if working with short, smooth furs, you need bristle brush. It will exfoliate the skin and get rid of excess hair. Use a pin brush to add the final touch.

Dryer

Buying the right type of dryer is crucial. You already know that using a human hair dryer is out of the question because it’s too hot for the animal and can harm it. Animal dryers are specifically made for this purpose, taking the animal’s needs into consideration. They have different settings and drying options suitable for every customer you get. Make sure you invest in a device that’s strong and has multiple drying levels.

Instead of hot air, these dryers use high-pressure air. This way, they penetrate deep into the animal’s fur. Avoid dryers that are too loud. There are plenty of animals that are scared of loud sounds. Once you’re finished with the drying part, make sure you clean the dryer right away. Doing this after every usage will keep it working for many years to come.

Nail Clippers

source: freepik.com

Nail clippers are an essential in every pet grooming equipment kit. They’re also an important part of the grooming process. They need to be comfortable to hold with an ergonomic design because you’ll be using them a lot. Uncomfortable clippers can tire your hands and make it hard to work.

To make sure you can handle all animals that come into your salon, get clippers in many sizes. Invest in the best brand you can find so they’ll last longer. When you use them, they should give a clean cut and not leave any unclipped pieces. Otherwise, the animal can get hurt while scratching itself. If you’re not that experienced in cutting nails, buy ones that have a safety guard.

Hair Clippers

There are two types of hair clippers: plug-in and cordless. Although you can choose to use just one, it’s always a good idea to have both alternatives. This is only in case the plug-in cordless device’s battery runs out or there is no power for some reason.

The electric motor clippers are good when you’re dealing with thin and short coats. If you’re working on thicker furs, go for pivot motor clippers. Once again, an ergonomic handle is very important for this type of grooming equipment. Give them a try before buying them and get the most comfortable ones you can find.

Crates

Crates and cages will help your salon stay neat and well-organised. They should be a place where the animals feel safe and comfortable. Buying them in a few different sizes will help you accommodate many different animals. The pet should be able to stand, stretch and turn inside. To make them cosier, add some pet bed or blanket, pillows and toys.

Buy cages and crates made of durable materials such as stainless steel. They’re strong, can withstand a lot of wear and tear, and most importantly, they’re simple and easy to clean. Latches and locks are a must in case some pets are smart enough to open the door and get out. Depending on the space you have available, you can even buy stackable crates and save some floor space.

Grooming is one of the crucial responsibilities of being a dog owner, as we are all aware, with brushing being one of the basic steps of maintaining a healthy and beautiful coat. Depending on the breed, there are differences in the type of dog brush that is appropriate for maintaining a healthy grooming routine.

Is Brushing Your Dog’s Coat Necessary?

source: dogsbestlife.com

Although brushing your dog’s fur isn’t always easy, it’s essential for keeping their coat feeling and looking good. Regular brushing can prevent excessive shedding and stray hair from accumulating in your house. Additionally, you’ll reduce their likelihood of developing severe tangles and mats, which experts say can result in discomfort from skin irritation and infections that can easily turn into a more serious health issue. Furthermore, regular brushing can help you and your pet bond more strongly, and offer you more control over grooming.

What Brushes Are Best for Dogs?

There are different types, sizes and styles of grooming brushes available. They’re suitable for different textures and lengths of dog hair. Here are some tips to help you choose the correct brush for your dog’s coat type.

Check the Most Popular Grooming Brush Types

According to experts, the most popular dog grooming brushes and combs are slicker brushes, pin brushes for untangling long hair, rake combs to minimise shedding, and ordinary combs to remove any remaining tangles after the first brush. Curry combs are another item you may encounter; they help short-haired dogs with loose hairs, getting rid of them before and during bath time.

Consider Your Dog’s Coat

The kind of hair your dog has will determine which brush is best for them. Firmer, longer-lasting pin-slicker brushes work better on breeds with longer hair. Conversely, short-haired breeds require finer-toothed grooming tools that help reduce shedding, or softer pet brushes like rubber ones.

Smooth-coated Dogs

source: thesprucepets.com

“Smooth coats” refer to the short fur close to the dog’s body. Smooth-coated dog breeds, such as Labradors, Beagles, Greyhounds, Boxers, and Rottweilers, are among the easiest to groom because their fur isn’t likely to become matted or overly long. They still require weekly grooming, though.

Because dogs with smooth coats are prone to moulting, daily brushing helps to guarantee that their coats stay lustrous and soft, living true to their name. Rubber-made brushes are some of the best for dogs with smooth coats. Also, a natural bristle brush can help maintain the health of your dog’s fur.

Double-coated Dogs

Certain canines, like Malamutes, German Shepherds, and Huskies, have double layers of fur. Their lengthier outer coat shields them from the elements and filth, while their dense, soft undercoat is an insulation. A dog with two coats needs regular brushing to remove the dead undercoat and keep the outer coat from matting.

German Shepherds with longer outer coats benefit immensely from grooming brushes like the slicker, which works well on various coat types. Because of its flexible head that follows the natural curves of your dog’s body, a slicker brush eliminates loose hairs, avoids matting, and makes your dog feel comfortable. Using this brush daily can maintain your pet’s fur feeling and looking beautiful.

Wiry Coats

source: dogtime.com

The wiry, coarse fur is the hallmark of terrier breeds, such as Fox, Border, and West Highland. And just because their coat isn’t as glossy and silky as other breeds’ doesn’t mean they require no regular grooming. Maintaining the wiry outer coat and undercoat in good condition is crucial for your dog’s comfort, as these canines have both layers of fur covering them.

Many owners prefer to keep their terriers’ coats short to minimise the need for frequent grooming because the wiry top coat can be challenging to work with. On the other hand, others decide to let their new fur grow by using a stripping knife to remove the coarse hairs from their coat.

Curly, Sleek, and Combination Coats

It’s no surprise that different dog breeds have varied coat types. Cockapoos and other cross-breeds sometimes have mixed coats, and it might take some time for a new owner to figure out how to maintain them well-groomed. Some dog breeds, like Spaniels, have sleek fur similar in texture to human hair, while other types, like Poodles and Bichon Frise, have curly, wool-like coats.

An excellent all-rounder pet brush for each of these coat types is a slicker brush. Dogs with a mix or longer fur benefit greatly from owning a Dual grooming brush. This brush’s bristle side contributes to glossiness, while its pin side keeps coats free of tangles.

Additional Grooming Tools for Dog Brushing

source: rover.com

There are more tools available to you for dog grooming than brushes. Among these you have:

Grooming gloves are ideal because they massage the skin and help remove loose hair and debris for short-haired dogs.

Dog combs work best on long-haired dogs because they increase shine and help remove mats and knots. Wide-toothed combs, fine-toothed combs, and pin combs are among the several varieties available.

Once more, choosing a tool convenient for you and your dog is essential. You’ll find grooming more challenging and less pleasurable if the comb is painful.

Moving is a time-consuming and daunting process, even more so when you have to take your puppy with you. As part of your family, you need to find the right way to relocate your furry friend and make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible. In this blog post we will talk exactly about that – how to safely transport your puppy interstate without any problems. Stay tuned.

First of all, you need to ensure your pet will feel safe and comfortable during the entire process, which means you need to buy a suitable traveling container. Keep in mind that the container needs to be approved by IATA (International Air Transport Association). In Australia, pet containers are usually made of metal or plastic, so regardless of your choice, make sure there is enough room for your pet to move freely. Or, to ensure everything goes as it should, your best bet is to hire a reliable company that will take care of your puppy transport interstate.

Why? Well, because these companies have the experience in doing it all – organizing domestic flights, boarding, deliveries, and pet pick-ups. They will book the flight with the most direct route possible, supply an airline-approved travel kennel for your dog if you don’t have one, pre-flight walk and play, flight check-in, deliver your puppy directly to you and everything in-between. Most airline companies have their own regulations regarding puppy transport interstate. Their space for transporting pets is usually limited, which is why in many cases they ask pet owners to hire a pet transport company for that purpose.

Before leaving, make sure to take your puppy to the vet to ensure that everything is fine with him. Ask for a copy of the medical records of your pet and get the needed certificates and vaccines. Depending on the condition of your puppy, the vet may suggest that you give him some pills or drops in case he gets anxious.

Start packing early and don’t forget to take your dog’s favorite water bowls, toys, blankets, etc. Once you reach your destination safe and sound, give your pet some space to adjust to the new home. No matter how excited you may be, keep in mind that everything is new for him, so it is okay if he feels a bit insecure. Do not rush the process and introduce your puppy to too many rooms at once. Having all his favorite items around him, like his toys, blankets, bowls, and bed will help your pet feel more like home and will help him to adjust better to the new environment.

Ever since we learned how to domesticate animals, there has been an unbreakable bond between them and us. Our pets are such a huge part of our lives that we consider them family. So whether you’ve made the decision, or are thinking about moving overstate or interstate, and you’re a loving pet owner, then you’re probably thinking about what the best way is to take your best friend with you.

While it’s possible for you to move your buddy by yourself completely, the process is quite demanding and involves a considerable amount of stress. Or, you can just hire a company that specializes in overseas and interstate pet transport and have them do the work. There are numerous benefits of having a pet relocation company deal with everything. But before putting your beloved one in the hands of complete strangers, it’s best you do your research on the best cat or dog overstate or interstate pet transport company.

Your pet is your most precious cargo, so you shouldn’t just trust anyone with it’s transportation, regardless whether it’s just 5 or 5 000 kilometers. Different countries and states have different rules and regulations for animal import, and obtaining all of the necessary information concerning your big move without having the help of experienced professionals can be difficult. When you contact a pet transport service agency for the first time, you’re likely to be asked a few questions about your destination and your pet before they put together a full-proof action plan.

The biggest concern is typically the pet’s safety. So the company should make sure to take the extra step regarding your pet’s well-being and safety. They’ll attempt to minimise all the associated risks and will give you recommendations for keeping your animal safe on the road or on long flights, like having a well-ventilated and secure crate, and ensuring your animal travels in the cooler times during the day.

Professional pet moving agencies also understand that the journey isn’t just stressful and daunting for a pet, but for it’s owner as well. So they’ll make sure you understand everything regarding the travel, and they’ll offer you reassurance and guidance during that time. As a client, you need to be comfortable with the person who is transporting your pet. This is especially true if you have your pet picked up from your home and delivered to your new home by the company.

Hiring a pet moving service, be it interstate or overseas transportation will cost you, but for the peace of mind you’ll receive, knowing your pet is being transported safely, there’s no cost too high!

There are many dogs in this world that have a problem when it comes to licking or chewing their feet. Sometimes it might even feel like all the remedies and medications you get from your vet aren’t working; it doesn’t matter what you try the itching and biting just won’t stop! Some of these medications might be high in chemicals so below I’ll go over some organic, all natural doggy bath recipes that have ingredients that are proven to help with irritated, inflamed skin such as Epsom salt foot bath.

These recipes have helped many people sooth their dogs’ paws and they will save you time and money on vet visits. You should always keep a bucket next to the front door so you can easily use it after walks just by filling it up with warm water and any ingredients listed below so you are prepared right away.

The first recipe is to mix warm water with oatmeal. The oatmeal will release natural oils that will moisturize and condition dry, cracked paws and soothe and calm any inflammation that could be the cause of the itching. All you have to do is dissolve a couple cups of ground oats of the unflavored kind in warm water into a bathtub and get your dog to stand or lay there for roughly around 10 minutes. This is great as it is chemical free and won’t harm your dog in case he eats it.

You can mix up warm water with iodine in a bath for your dog to get rid of any toxins or allergens that might be on his paws and between the toes. This also will disinfect any open wounds your dog might have from scratching and will also be a treatment from any yeast infection that could be caused by all the licking and chewing. You want the water to resemble the colour of iced tea and put the paws in for about 30 seconds, pat them clean and you are done.

Warm water mixed with baking soda is another combination that removes allergens and soothes inflammation and irritated skin. Just mix water with about 1 or 2 tablespoons per liter and let your dog stand in it for a couple of minutes. The itching should stop after that.

You can also mix warm water, apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to treat yeast infections, soothe the skin on the paws and also to kill bacteria and fungus. You want to mix about 1 cup or apple vinegar and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide into 2 litres of water, soak your dogs paws for about 30 seconds and then allow the skin to air dry.

All natural herbal teas are also a nice treat to add into these baths as they provide a healing medicine; they include mild astringents that help heal any sores or wounds. They also have anti-inflammatory properties that aid with itching. Add them into a warm bath and let them seep into the water for a few minutes, or just prepare tea like you normally would and let it cool down, then you can feel free to add vinegar and water.

And last but not least, our favourite remedy is definitely an Epsom salt foot bath. Add 1 cup of Epsom salts to 2 litres of water and get your dog to stay in the bath for around 10 minutes. This salt contains properties that help balance your dog’s natural bacteria on his/her skin. This helps with getting rid of any bad bacteria all while keeping the good bacteria on. An Epsom salt foot bath has proven to be a very effective way of help soothing your dog’s skin and returning it to its natural state.

Everyone envies the pet owners of perfectly trained dogs that walk so smoothly and cheerfully along their side while both of them are in a perfect harmony. If you have never owned a dog, but you are planning to get yourself a furry companion, you might have asked yourself whether you could manage to get a hold of the dog’s temperament, or, in the worst case scenario, would you end up shouting, twisting and turning while he messes around with your time and patience.

While you may never know how things will turn out in the end regardless of your efforts, there are several things you absolutely need to try before you call the quits on training your dog all by yourself.

Be a Pack Leader

This means – no baby talk, no kisses and hugs and no petting unless deserved. This rule does not imply you should not be nice and lovable to your dog whenever you feel like it, but keep in mind that you must not show affection or give treats when he is misbehaving because he will think that this is the behaviour you want to encourage and will continue doing it in the future. Believe it or not, dogs are in need of a pack leader, they like to know who is in charge of the situation and if you do not take that position soon enough, you will find yourself being led and controlled by your dog in a way that he will be able to embarrass you and still get what he wants.

Keep the Dog Lead Short

If given too much freedom at the very beginning, your dog will never learn how to stay by your side. Therefore, you need to keep the dog lead quite short until the dog gets the idea that you do not want him to walk in front or behind you.

Keep Distractions Away

If you notice that your dog gets too excited or pays too much attention to certain things, such as people on bikes or cats, make sure you avoid them as much as possible. But if you have to confront them, just hold the dog lead really tight and be prepared to firmly change direction. If the dog manages to quickly snap out of it, reward him with a treat. This is how you will show that you control the situation and the direction and if the dog wants to be able to keep up with you and be rewarded for that, he will have to pay attention to the situation as a whole, rather than get obsessed over certain people, animals or objects.

Dogs are very smart creatures and they learn very fast, therefore if you are consistent and determined with the above listed tips, there will be no reason why you should ever need any additional or professional help for proper dog training.

Being a dog owner is surely great except for one thing – the moment your pet overtakes your favourite lounge place in your home, no matter if it is the couch, the recliner or even your bed! Yes, cuddling with your lovely furry friend is pleasurable, but let’s not forget that your dog also needs its own space; a space called ‘bed’.

But, there are many dog owners who find ‘browsing dog bed for sale’ a complex and daunting task, only because there are few important things that need to be considered in order to make the right choice. Here’s what you need to pay attention to.

The Sleeping Position of Your Dog

Does your best furry friend love to stretch out when sleeping? For example, if your dog usually sleeps with the paws completely stretched out at one side, or on the belly with the paws stretched out in front and back, you should go for either a traditional square or a rectangular dog bed. Normally, larger dogs sleep in a stretched out position, hence the best thing you can do is to measure your dog when asleep and add at least 12cm to the measurement. This way, you will buy a bed that will offer your dog the needed comfort and coziness.

On the other side, if your dog sleeps in a curled-up position with paws tucked under the body, you should buy your dog a ‘cuddler’ type dog bed for sale. It is the very best option. The ‘cuddler’ type bed is actually a donut-shaped bed where the dog sleeps in the centre, surrounded by a circle of exceptional cushioned comfort. In other words, this type of bed is the ideal sleeping solution for smaller dogs. To ensure the right size, you need to measure your dog and add around 7cm for a guaranteed comfort.

The Temper of Your Dog

If your dog has shown to be an aggressive scratcher and chewer, you need to look for a dog bed for sale that will be of high quality and durable enough to resist the dog’s behaviour.

Other Special Needs

While your cute furry friend is still a little puppy, it is not recommended to purchase a dog bed until your puppy gets potty trained. This is how you will avoid the unwelcome accidents in bed, because even if the dog bed is washable, it does not necessarily mean that traces from the urine smell will go away. Even worse, the smell can make your puppy believe that the bed is the right place to ‘do the business’.

Things children learn and experience at young age are the very things that further on tend to emerge as very strong impressions and characteristics that intertwine with the way they perceive a given notion.

For instance, many parents decide to raise their children along with some fuzzy, fluffy creatures we call pets because when they remember how fun it was to have a pet, how good, how exciting it felt and they know that it is very beneficial for the emotional and physical and social development of the child.

And, you’re doing another great thing at the same time, you’re giving a shelter and home to a lovely creature that will show you and your family nothing but gratitude and affection. If the pet is adopted from a shelter, even better, you will be truly saving a life. Adopted (not bought) pets have proven to be far more loyal for they do know what it feels like to live without the warmth of a home. Here I want to focus on the three main benefits children get by interacting with, owning and loving a dear animal at young age.

Pets Urge Children To Read More

Children like to pretend that they are in charge and while this characteristic of theirs is very often noticed when children are observed during their playtime with dolls and other toys, they also exhibit the same notion when it comes to their interaction with cats or dogs. If you offer you kid the option to curl under a blanket with a cat while you read a bedtime story, the child will be far more motivated to indulge in reading. It has been proven that children make less mistakes when they practice their reading skills with animals around – they know that animals won’t judge them and won’t embarrass them by asking a question they do not know the answer to yet.

A Pet Can Comfort A Worried Child

Studies have shown that children who have a loving relationship with animals, do not exhibit the same level of stress and worry regarding rejections from more popular children. Therefore, when children feel lonely, parents shouldn’t try to comfort them by buying them expensive toys; instead, get a puppy and see how your kid’s world will light up again and for all the right reasons. Pets keep children away from the computer, they tend to urge them to go outside and play in the sun, even rain. This also triggers positive emotions and makes children forget about the worries and rejections of the past days faster and with renowned confidence.

Pets Strengthen Kid’s Immune System

Dennis Ownby, MD, a renowned pediatrician that is also a head of the allergy and immunology department of the Medical College of Georgia conducted a study which shows that having more than one pet diminishes a child’s risk of developing certain allergies. His research was done by tracking a group of 474 babies from birth to about the age of 7. He discovered that children who regularly interacted with two or more dogs or cats when they were babies were 50% less likely to become susceptible to common allergies in comparison to kids who didn’t have any pets in the home. Other studies have shown that an early exposure to pets may diminish a child’s risk of asthma. These facts show that by having pets in our homes, we are creating a more natural environment that ‘teaches’ child’s immune system not to defend itself from every little speck of dust by an allergy breakout.

Being a pet owner is definitely a lovely and one-of-a-kind experience. For majority, pets are like children and normally, every mindful pet owner would like to provide the best possible care for his/her pet and ensure happy and healthy life.

But sometimes, being a pet owner can turn into a costly responsibility that monthly budget cannot support. Especially if you practice a stylish and branded pet owning. Hence, if you’re looking for best ways to save some cash on pet supplies without compromising your pet’s well-being, here is what you should consider.

Online Shopping – Believe it or not, online shopping can be far more budget friendly than traditional shopping when it comes to pet-related products. There is a wide range of online pet products, so pet owners can compare different brands, different retailers, thus different prices. Online shopping can be a great way not only to save money, but time as well. Since the competition on the market is huge, online pet products can be found at jaw-dropping prices, which are suitable for every budget. Therefore, stop wasting your time, turn on your computer and ransack online pet products retailers. Look for reputable online pet stores that offer quality online pet products at easy-on-the-pocket prices.

Less Is More – When it comes to shopping for pet food, you should buy reasonable quantities. Your pet does not need to be overfed and you do not have to spend a small fortune on excessive food supply. Small meals rich with in vitamins, minerals and proteins is all that your pet needs. And your family budget too. If you have been stocking on pet food, you better stop doing it and see how positively it will affect your finances.

Home Grooming – Yes, monthly visits to local groomer can be really expensive. The truth is that grooming is not something that pet owners cannot do by themselves. So, instead of throwing your hard-earned money that easily, do the pet grooming yourself. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to bath your pet, brush its teeth, clean its ears and trim its nails at home. If you are new to all this, you can always seek professional advice from your vet, who can give you some guidelines on how to safely and properly groom your pet at home.
