With a production history spanning more than 50 years, Toyota’s unbreakable Hilux is the standard that all other 4x4s are measured by. No other commercially available truck enjoys the Hilux’s reverence or distinction when it comes to unassailable ruggedness; and in a country like Australia, it’s a trait that’s worth its weight in gold.

That’s also why it’s no surprise that some of the toughest, and most performance-oriented aftermarket exhaust systems for the Hilux are manufactured in Australia. Aussie engineers are under no illusions about how to draw out the best qualities from an exhaust system. They know it takes more than just shiny pipes to withstand Australia’s extreme climate, and what they’ve come up with for the Hilux are a series of exhaust solutions that convincingly live up to the Hilux’s unbreakable reputation.

Trust Aftermarket Hilux Exhaust Systems for Undisputed Reliability

Source: youtube.com

Let’s be honest: while it’s tempting to think of aftermarket exhaust systems strictly in terms of output when you’re talking about an upgrade for the world’s toughest 4WD, you also have every reason to expect it to be the hardest-wearing system in the world. This is where premium aftermarket Toyota Hilux exhaust systems distinguish themselves from all others.

High-quality, Australian-made systems don’t just flow better: they do it with the hardened reliability that Hilux owners demand from their vehicles. You only have to look at the range of Hilux models that exhaust systems are available for to understand just how committed the Aussie aftermarket is to live up to these heavy-duty Toyotas’ standard for durability.

You can buy durable aluminised, or stainless steel Hilux exhaust systems for each of the following models:

1997 – 2005 LN147, LN167, and LN179 3.0L diesels;

1999 – 2005 KZN165 / 1KZ-TE 3.0L turbo diesels;

2005 – 2015 KUN26R and KUN16R 3.0L turbo-diesels;

2005 – 2017 GGN150 V6 4.0L petrols; and,

2015 – present GUN126R N80 2.8L turbo diesels.

Top quality, ADR (Australian Design Rule) compliant Hilux performance exhaust systems are manufactured in 2.5“ and 3.0“ diameters, and are available in both full, and cat-back configurations. And while the best of these aftermarket Hilux exhaust system upgrades can increase your engine’s output by as much as 10%, it’s their ability to withstand Oz’s environmental extremes that makes them the perfect complement to the Hilux’s undisputed stellar reputation for reliability.

Superior Exhaust Engineering For Hilux Performance and Reliability

In spite of their straightforward construction, exhaust system designers are all too aware that in order to maximize an engine’s output, it also has to be more effective at expelling spent gases. It’s a process that’s quickly complicated, however, by awkward exhaust tube radiuses, turbulence inside the tubes, and even the tendency for hot, less dense air to want to linger inside the system. And it’s no coincidence that these complications will weigh just as heavily on the system’s reliability as they do on engine performance.

Performance, reliability, and durability all come down to how efficiently a system is able to remove spent exhaust gases. That’s why Aussie-engineered Toyota Hilux exhaust systems naturally eclipse the performance of less capable aftermarket systems when it comes to:

Scavenging as much hot spent exhaust gas away from the engine and through the system as possible;

Creating as much flow velocity to evacuate spent gases through the system as quickly as possible; and,

Eliminating the root causes of backpressure that restrict exhaust gas movement.

Make no mistake: when it comes to tubing configurations that are designed for the lowest possible restrictions under the harshest possible conditions, Australian-made, fully mandrel bent, and TIG-welded Hilux exhausts are as unbeatable as the rest of your vehicle is unbreakable. And with their optimized flow characteristics, including high-flow mufflers, these Toyota Hilux exhausts deliver an array of benefits that are perfectly aligned with the Hilux’s rock-solid repertoire of performance when it comes to:

Snappier throttle response and acceleration;

An increase in high RPM horsepower; and,

A reduction in fuel consumption due to less back pressure.

Although some commercially available aftermarket Hilux exhaust setups are intended strictly for off-road use, they’re all crafted with materials and coatings that are designed to take on the roughest environmental conditions that Australia has to offer.

Materials That Are Consistent

Source: lovinglocal.com.au

No matter where you look on a Hilux, it’s obvious that materials deserve a lot of credit for their resilience. With its near bullet-proof powertrain, and a steel chassis that’s constructed to endure the most crushing impacts, there’s little question about the Hilux’s unyielding durability. It’s also the same rugged reliability that aftermarket exhaust manufacturers in Australia build into their Toyota Hilux exhaust upgrade packages.

Heavy-duty aluminised and stainless steel stock are the hands-down preference for sturdy, affordable Hilux tubing; and together with their thermal coatings and excellent heat transfer properties, both metals also offer a core of critically rugged benefits that include:

Low weight and superior tensile strength;

High resistance to heat cycling and excessive vibration; and,

Exceptional resistance to rust and caustic exhaust gas corrosion.

And if you do damage an aluminised or stainless steel exhaust, they’re easily repaired with simple welding. It’s a reminder that no matter what your vehicle is subjected to, you can be confident that your aftermarket Hilux exhaust upgrade is just as unbreakable as the rest of it.

The Final Word

At the end of the day, when it’s time to upgrade your Hilux’s exhaust, a standard aftermarket system just won’t do. You want a system that’s as rugged as your vehicle, and that’s precisely what you get with a genuine Aussie-engineered solution.

You can trust a premium, Australian-made Toyota Hilux exhaust system to give you the performance you want with the durability you expect. They’re the systems you can trust to uphold your Hilux’s unbreakable legacy.

For 4 decades, Mitsubishi’s full-sized Pajero was the brand’s heavyweight SUV flagship, known for its reliability and comfort. Over 150k units were sold in Australia during its 40-year run, and the intercooled, fourth-generation 3.2L turbodiesel NSs and NTs are arguably considered its most popular models. But even though their distinctively spacious styling offers plenty of head and leg space, they’ve always been short in the tooth when it comes to power.

The Pajero’s 125kW / 358Nm output may be among the most consistent of all Aussie SUVs, but it certainly doesn’t rank it among the highest. Not surprisingly, there’s one equally consistent approach that can be taken to unleash more of the power that these rock-stable 4-cylinders are capable of producing: it’s as simple as mounting an aftermarket exhaust system.

Torquey Exhaust Upgrades For Your Gen 4 Pajero

Source: practicalmotoring.com.au

If you’re like most Pajero owners, you’re probably a little skeptical about just how much more power you can actually get from a new exhaust. Make no mistake, though: upgraded, low-restriction Mitsubishi Pajero exhausts are genuine performance game-changers. Without any other modifications, simply increasing the Pajero’s exhaust tube diameter from 2.5“ to 3.0“ will instantly yield an extra 5 -15kW, and that’s only the beginning.

What’s important to consider about aftermarket Pajero exhaust systems is that they aren’t as much power producers as they are power optimizers. The Pajero’s noticeably restrictive exhaust system is great at reducing emissions, but it does so at the expense of low-end power and fuel economy. An upgraded 3.0“ Pajero exhaust, however, is designed to let your engine breathe better as well as run cooler – characteristics that offer a bevy of benefits that include:

Better exhaust flow/scavenging. Upgraded Pajero exhausts allow spent gases to move easily from high to low pressure, thereby improving evacuation.

Greater exhaust velocity. With the improved scavenging that comes from better flow, gases don’t just move easier through the system, they also move quicker, which ultimately multiplies the scavenging benefit.

Less back pressure. Mandrel bent tubing, and TIG-welded flanges inside and out effectively eliminate any interior restrictions that might present an obstruction for evacuating gases.

The fact is, while these attributes don’t contribute directly to a tremendous increase in wattage for the Pajero’s 3.2L, they do equate to a noticeable increase in bottom-end torque that’s optimal for towing and pulling. The improved exhaust flow and reduction in back pressure also means that with a Pajero exhaust upgrade, your engine burns less fuel throughout its full RPM range.

Higher Flow and Lower Resistance For All Pajero Models

You can buy high flow, low resistance Pajero performance exhaust systems for their entire fourth generation lineup, to include:

2002 – 2008, and Oct 2016 Pajero NS and NX models with DPF and sensors;

2006 – 2016 NS, NT, NW, and NX models without DPF; and,

2006 – 2008 NS and NT models with DPF, but without sensors.

At the top of the roster, the best of these ADR-compliant, turbo-back Mitsubishi Pajero exhaust setups are constructed from high yield, 2mm aluminised steel, and come complete with high-flow 200 cell diesel catalytic converters, braided flex joints, and a choice of either single or dual flow-through mufflers. Aluminised steel offers virtually the same structural stability and corrosion resistance that most other high-alloy steels have, but at a significantly lower price, and all while delivering on the core qualities of a solid street-legal turbo-diesel, including:

Improved throttle responsiveness and low-end torque;

Better heat dispersion, resulting in faster turbo spooling, and higher boost levels at lower RPMs; and,

A deeper and richer exhaust note, without the annoying cabin drone.

If your rig is committed strictly to off-road or race use, you can also have your Pajero exhaust system in a true, high strength stainless steel with straight-through mufflers. These rugged, exclusive-use systems still offer the same core qualities that their street-legal equivalents have, but with the added benefit of even less restrictive flow, and even greater resistance to rust and corrosion.

Ideally, in spite of their 0.5“ larger diameter, both the aluminised, and the stainless steel 3.0“ systems are exact replacements for factory Mitsubishi Pajero exhaust system fourth generation setups. They don’t require any cutting or welding for a perfect fit using all of your Pajero’s factory mounts; and the same is true for either manual or automatic transmission-equipped models.

Heat Resistant Coatings That Help Your Pajero Exhaust Go Longer

Source: bernardoecenarro.com

Regardless of whether it’s a matter of superior exhaust flow and velocity, or improved heat dispersion and evacuation, heat-resistant coatings make a tremendous difference in exhaust performance. Nothing does a better job of controlling exhaust system temperatures than coatings; and when it comes to an aftermarket configuration like an exhaust system for Mitsubishi Pajero SUVs, they’re especially important for limiting heat’s capacity for creating turbo lag.

With their ability to lock heat inside the pipe, heat-resistant coatings are also the solution to:

The cumulative effects of vibration and repeated heat cycling;

Corrosion due to caustic exhaust gases and road-borne chemicals; and,

The radiation of heat into the cabin.

The fact is, when upgrading your Pajero’s exhaust, you want to be sure that it has a heat-resistant coating. It guarantees performance, while also helping to ensure your system’s longevity.

The Final Word

At the end of the day, Mitsubishi’s full-sized Pajero isn’t just one of their biggest success stories, it’s also one of their most accepting when it comes to upgrades. The 3.2L powerplant is receptive to everything from ECU tuning to a straight turbo upgrade, but it takes an exhaust grade to produce the best results at the lowest cost.

Low-restriction Mitsubishi Pajero exhausts let you tap into your 3.2L’s natural power band, and instantly put that uncorked power on the road. It’s an investment in both performance and longevity that you won’t regret making.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your 100 Series LandCruiser’s performance, then you’ll quickly notice that most improvements focus on the front end, such as cold air intakes, supercharger, and turbocharger systems and upgraded internal engine components. But what you may not be aware of, is that the best way to improve performance is by getting a 100 Series Landcruiser exhaust upgrade. Here’s why.

The spent exhaust gases that are a result of your engine’s combustion will leave your vehicle faster and more efficiently thanks to the 100 Series LandCruiser exhaust upgrade. Furthermore, your engine will get cleaner, cooler air, which is crucial for it to burn fuel at an optimum rate. These two things alone result in improved performance and fuel economy, but there are more ways an aftermarket system can benefit your LandCruiser.

For example, your stock catalytic converter can be restricting. In the past, many gear heads opted to take the catalytic converter out of the system to reduce weight and improve performance, but nowadays, catalytic converters are required by law, otherwise, you’ll fail your emission tests. In order to survive, aftermarket exhaust system manufacturers have adapted and now manufacture high-flow catalytic converters that are made of more lightweight materials, and are more efficient at what they do.

Furthermore, your stock mufflers are built with the goal of reducing the noise that comes out of your exhaust. While this may not be a priority for most, there are some people who prefer their LandCruiser to have a more aggressive exhaust note. Aftermarket exhaust mufflers can make your vehicle’s sound deeper or higher pitched – depending on what you prefer.

And lastly, your stock exhaust tip will look like every other LandCruiser exhaust tip out there. Again, some people won’t mind, but others may want to make their LandCruiser more personalised. Aftermarket exhaust tips come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and finishes. You can get a chrome, stainless steel, carbon fibre or black exhaust tip to make your vehicle stand out from the crowd.

Regardless of what your reasons for upgrading your exhaust system may be, you’ll get a more durable and better performing system that will likely outlast your LandCruiser. Aftermarket exhaust systems are made using aluminised, T304 or T409 stainless steel, all of which are incredibly strong and are rust-resistant materials – features that will allow you to drive your LandCruiser in rough terrain with peace of mind.
